Janice M. Vidal

After listening to another preview of her new songs I couldn’t help but do a post on her.

For those who are unfamiliar, Janice is a Chinese/Korean/Philippino. A.k.a 衛蘭 (Wai Lan), she originally auditioned for EEG Company (Artists under include Twins, Joey Yung, Kenny Kwan<3 etc) but was turned down. Why? I have no idea because her voice is absolutely gorgeous.

Janice is definitely my favourite Chinese (or mixed?) female singer EVER…even though she only debuted 3 years ago Although some may argue that she doesn’t have a pretty face or that there’s too much ‘baby fat’ I say ‘pffft’ to them because she is talented. She hasn’t yet gotten to a stage where she composes her own music etc etc but her singing is just PWOARH. At times it gets a bit nasally but that is understandable since most of her notes are pretty high!

I remember when she first debuted her chinese made me cringe. I also doubted whether or not she knew what she was talking about. But her chinese has definitely improved and she has also released a song in mando and it sounds pretty good to me. Janice also sings in english and its GOOD english. She grew up in the States and unlike a few Korean boys who shall remain unnamed, her english is seriously genuine.

An interesting fact is that Janice has a twin sister, Jill, who is also a singer but because her parents divorced at a young age Janice was actually unaware of the fact that she had a twin until she was 10 years old!!! But don’t quote me on that because I read about this like three years ago o___o Lol.

Jill’s voice sounds exactly the same as Janice, no joke, so you’d think that I would also be a fan of her BUT their music is quite different…so no. It’s nothing against Jill but if you’ve read the lyrics for most of her songs…then I think you’d be like o___O coz they’re odd.

To be honest, I can’t pick out which is my favourite album because every single album I have listened to more than a trillion times. No joke. So I’ll do a very quick review of my favourite songs that have only made me love and appreciate Janice more ^^

大哥 ‘Big Brother’ - she debuted with this song (not going to count her remake of Leon’s songs) and it helped her gain so much recognition. When I was in HK they played this song at every Karaoke place I walked pass. It’s R&B (I think!? I’m not good at music genres) so it’s very catchy. The lyrics are sweet and about how she likes a guy that only treats her as a sister. Cliche, I know but give it a try.

Superman - english song. I LOVE IT. JUST LISTEN TO IT AND YOU WILL TOO.

心亂如麻 - I’m not sure how to translate that properly. Like…’heart is all tangled/messy’ okay that was really bad *bows in apology* But it’s another great song (Okay all her songs are great =.=”) But she cried in her MV!

Goodbye - (live fancam - tad fuzzy) another english song. I love the lyrics and she sings so beautifully ^_________^

離家出走 ‘Run Away from home’ - Fav track on her 3rd album. A few high notes in the chorus and lovely piano playing…by whoever xP

拍錯拖 ’Dated wrong person!?’ - This is the nasally song I was talking about. But still listen to it, coz I recommend it

 

But honestly, I love every single song shes sung. Which is very rare considering even DBSK have songs that make me *bang head on table*

Okay, that was a really crap review and it probably wasn’t convincing enough because I really should be studying atm…I just couldn’t contain my excitement about her new album coming out (which I hope is soon) so I’m kinda all over the place right now xD 

 

::EDIT:: Doesn’t Janice look great with white eyeliner? She’s often seen with it and influenced by her I decided to go out and get my own. Well…technically I got it from someone else since it was a Christmas present but that’s beside the point. I think my white eyeliner is too chalky and so I can’t seem to get the same effect. Which sucks. Coz white eyeliner is awesome! Though that may be just me XD
