The Next Dawn

I got a few new albums recently (coz my mummy is back from HK!!!!) and surprisingly they’re all CHINESE! *gasp* Lol. And it has practically been a decade since my hi-fi had only chinese CDs in it and theres space for 3 discs, lol! Actually the main reason was because I was unwilling to take Don’t Don out. This is reeeeeeeeally odd, but I’ve had my Don’t Don CD in there ever since I bought it. So that means…over 7 mths O.o

Anyways, the first album I’m going to review is Claire Kuo’s (郭靜)- The Next Dawn. This is her second album and I haven’t heard her first one so I guess I’m probably in no position to judge her or compare…but I’ll do so anyway ;)

Photobucket

  1. 下一個天亮 (The Next Dawn) – The title track is probably one of the easiest song to listen to so I guess it’s a good way to start off the album. I love the chorus the best where the lyrics go something along the lines of ‘Let’s wait for the next dawn and go back to where we held hands and admired the flowers for a walk, shall we?  … Let’s wait for the next dawn and you can give me the photo you secretly took of me?
  2. 百分百 (A Hundred Percent) – Her voice is rather shaky at the start, not sure whether or not it’s intentional. Again, the song is rather boring until the chorus. But the lyrics are really sweet <3 However, I’m not really sure what the title has to do with the lyrics.
  3. 大玩笑 (A Big Joke) – I gave this song 2 out of 5 stars. I’m not a fan of this one. It’s one of those songs where it sounds like the singer is talking more than singing.
  4. 愛情訊息 (Love Message) – I don’t like the music at the start. I skipped it several times before actually giving it a good listen…and the song itself isn’t that bad. But IDK, there’s still something about it I don’t like. It’s still earned a good 4 out of 5 stars though.
  5. 慢慢紀念 (To commemorate) – One of my 3 favourites. I like the piano throughout this song. The notes are very clear and the music and her vocals balance really well in this song. The melody is rather bittersweet, I really like it <3
  6. 不藥而癒 - I won’t try translating the title into a few simple words because it’s too hard. It basically means ‘to be cured without medicine’. This song sounds really familiar, actually. Like it’s incorporated various tunes from songs I’ve heard once upon a time? Another favourite from the album. However, I feel as if the lyrics don’t really do justice to the melody? It’s kinda like the main idea doesn’t flow clear enough through the whole song. Also, it’s one of those songs where the 1st and 2nd verse is the exact same. So clearly there is no room for development in the lyrics.
  7. 回音(Echo) – I…don’t really like this song.
  8. 知道(Know) - My ABSOLUTE FAVOURITEST SONG <3333 It took me 2 seconds and I knew I would love this song forever and forever. The intro already told me this is going to be a sad song about unrequited love. You can always tell with those ones, can’t you? Also, I understood the most mando in this song ie I knew what the song was about even before reading the lyrics ^________^ I had a go translating because the lyrics are so heartbreaking BUT it’s so hard for the lyrics to remain poetic after translating into english so I probably won’t bother. Basically there’s A, B and C (B being the boy). A loves B but B loves C. A wants to know why B is so crazy about C and what about her makes him so obsessed. A also wants to know why her love isn’t comparable and why she’s not even worth his heart to beat for her. In the end, A knows why no matter how much she does, she’ll never be able to secure enough of B’s love because it’s already full of love for C. ITS SO SAD ;_____________________;
  9. 界線(Boundary) – I rather like this song too. Except in the chorus, she drags out some of the words too much and it kinda gives me a headache.
  10. 感冒(Fever) - I can’t stand this song. The lyrics are annoying lol, sorry. Kinda reminds me of SJH music XD

Overall, I think it’s a decent album. I re-rated my songs several times because I couldn’t decide if I liked the song or just felt pressured to give it a good rating (rating music is serious business, okay??). Tbh, I’m not particularly fond of her voice. She can sing alright but some of the notes weren’t very well controlled; imo, anyway.

    Ooh watch out for more posts then because I have more music to recommend! Yeah, I mean this isn’t my absolute favourite album but considering the type of music that’s out there these days, this is definitely worth the listen!

    Lol I gotta practice at writing music reviews. I either sound completely retarded or I hate the music XDD

    When I heard 不藥而癒 It sounded really familiar as well and I’ve figured it’s like Rainie Yang’s 暧昧 and 南拳妈妈‘s 靠近一点点 in the chorus. =o

    ^ooh yes! It does sound like Rainie’s 暧昧 !! Actually her voice semi resembles Rainie’s…just a tiny tiny bit. Hehe I think it also has to do with the mood of the song :)
